Under the category of construction aggregate, you’ll find a variety of different options, from gravel and sand to crushed stone and much more. It’s easy to see why aggregates are the most mined materials in the world. There are so many options available, with each texture providing its own distinct characteristics. If you’re looking for the right material for landscaping or construction, NM Ready Mix can help.
A Brief Overview of Construction Aggregate
Aggregate serves as a reinforcement, adding strength to the overall body of composite material. These materials can be used for both landscaping and construction projects.
Due to the substantially high hydraulic conductivity value, as compared to most soils, aggregates are standard in drainage application. This makes aggregates the perfect material for foundations, septic drain fields, retaining wall drains, and roadside edge drains. Aggregates are commonly used as a stable foundation or road/rail base with uniform properties. This helps to prevent differential settling under roads or buildings.
What Differentiates Aggregates
Aggregate comes in two general categories: fine and coarse. Fine aggregate tends to consist of sand, crushed stone, and gravel screenings. Fine aggregate is used when making thin concrete slabs or where a smooth surface is desired. Coarse aggregate, on the other hand, is made up of gravel, caliche, shot rock, and other coarse substances. The coarse option is used for more massive members.
NM Ready Mix has five different quarries from where we mine our aggregates. These collected materials are a component of composite materials such as asphalt and concrete. For landscaping projects, we provide landscaping rock in sizes from chips all the way up to 6-8 round rock. For construction projects, we offer State Spec Base Course.
